No pit required, no shaft, no head room, just clever accessible lift technology with self supporting shaft.
Equipment includes level indicators on doors and platform, voice announcement, automatic lowering function during power cuts, full consul with LED lighting and two tone lift shaft.
Any student, lecturer or visitor are now able to reach any level of this section of the university.
In the male and female residences of WSU mthatha university, Jessen (Pty) ltd also upgraded two 1980’s elevators using Doppler technology. The two 5 stop lifts are now running again providing equal access to all students.
The upgrade includes automatic rescue device in case of power cuts, the elevator will automatically find the closest level and open the door in case of power failure.

The upgrade includes motor-room safety and compliance equipment upgrades to meet the SANS standards of today including “military strength” access security to the motor rooms.
